October 31 - It's Halloween!

This has been the fastest year I've ever had. I can remember the weather and night of Halloween '08. It's a little concerning how fast the time goes these days. You really have to make time to notice the details or the days can just string together and before you know it you are a year older.
Tonight, my son, daughter and I travelled to my my brother's Richmond-area home where we met my father and mother. We then spent the next two hours trick-or-treating the neighborhood. In this recession year, there were a few more dark houses than last year, but there were some great homes that made up for them. Mitch was Indiana Jones, Maggie was a gypsy (costume made by Mimi) and Brandon (my nephew) was a Dead City Rider.

October 31 - Getting Fired Up!

Today was the second-to-last weekend of soccer for Team Fire. We met at the Louisa McDonald's for a team breakfast. Parents and teammates started the day out right and we went on to win our first game and tied our second. My appreciation and thanks to the parents that make our team strong. Special thanks to Martha Moore, Carolyn Wheeler and Giggles Snelson for extra effort and support!

October 25 - Roadtrip To DC

Dad and I had some business to tend to in DC and made a day out of it. Interesting going from LKA to DC in two hours. Saw some "interesting" stuff. Great city, though. We ate at Kelly's Irish Pub on Capitol Hill. Meatloaf sandwich and a Smithwicks for Dad, chicken BBQ and a Guiness for me. Man that stuff is so much better on tap....

October 24 - Still Paddling

Here's a few pics of Erin Freedman's crew and during and after their recent paddle on Lake Anna. They rented two cabins at the state park and two LKA Outfitters' kayaks and one canoe on Sunday. The leaves are falling but the colors are still wonderful here!

October 24 - Adventure Club

This afternoon and evening we had the first gathering of the Adventure Club. This is a group of boys and their fathers that get together for fun outdoor activities like bonfires and camp outs. Today was a little rainy at first, but cleared up in time for a great bonfire, scary stories, plenty of outdoor games, pumpkin carving and the camp out. Here's a great group shot and one of the football toss. Thanks to Bruce and Helen McCotter for hosting this one!

October 23 - One Fat Toad

I spied this fat fellow in front of the garage this morning.  I think that big belly is full of the camel crickets he's eating. Good thing, Chrissie hates camel crickets!

October 22 - Footprint of God?

I was fishing with Ed Hanley this afternoon and saw this "footprint" from a few miles out. We motored to a mid lake creek and ended up right under it... I thought you all might like to see it.
I've never seen anything like it in all my years on LKA.
